The End of May

I forget that the end of may is like chewing you up

At least what is left

I forget

Among all the buds and leaves

Beyond the dark and wintery things

There is still something more to gnash on

Something to chew and spit out

And the teeth are pointy and big around this time of year

And the breath, so hot

And the gums look like they hurt the way they bleed like that

The way blood fills the mouth

And the roof of the mouth burns

And the lips so bruised

It's the end of may

And I just feel ruined
